India has won a total of 60 medals till date in the continental meet.
India made a significant addition of seven medals to its Asian Games 2023 medal tally, comprising three silver and four bronze medals, with athletics once again taking center stage. Parul Chaudhary secured silver, and Priti Lamba claimed bronze in the women's 3000m steeplechase, resulting in a double podium triumph. Ancy Sojan emerged with the women's long jump silver, bouncing back from her Asian Championships setback earlier this year.
The 4x400m mixed relay team not only broke the national record but also captured a silver medal in Hangzhou. Vithya Ramraj, on her way to the final, equalled the national record set by Indian track and field legend PT Usha in the 400m hurdles during the heats. Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee achieved a historic milestone by winning India's first women's doubles table tennis bronze at the Asian Games following their semi-final battle.
Additionally, the speed skating 3000m teams contributed two bronze medals to India's overall tally. In the realm of men's hockey, the Indian hockey team continued its attacking prowess, overpowering Bangladesh 12-0 in the final Pool A match, setting their sights on the upcoming semi-finals led by Harmanpreet Singh.
Badminton players Kidambi Srikanth, along with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, marked their preliminary matches with victorious performances. Indian archers demonstrated their prowess by reaching the quarterfinals in nearly every event, with the exception being the women's individual recurve.
Saurav Ghosal and Tanvi Khanna also advanced to the squash singles last eight stage. The surprise of the day unfolded in kabaddi as Chinese Taipei held India to a 34-34 tie in their women's kabaddi opener, securing a point in the final raid.
