About
The India men's national field hockey team, governed by Hockey India, is a dominant force in international field hockey. Historically, they were under the control of the Indian Hockey Federation before transitioning to Hockey India. Notably, India was the first non-European team to join the International Hockey Federation. In 1928, they clinched their inaugural Olympic gold medal, marking the beginning of a remarkable era. From 1928 until 1960, the Indian men's team showcased their prowess by remaining undefeated in the Olympics, securing six consecutive gold medals. During this period, they held an astonishing 30–0 winning streak, which extended from their debut game in 1928 until the 1960 gold medal final, where they suffered their first loss. India also claimed the World Cup in 1975. In Olympic history, India's hockey team is unparalleled, boasting an impressive total of eight gold medals – achieved in 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964, and 1980. Their performance in the Olympics is remarkable, with 83 victories out of 134 matches played. What's more, they have scored more goals in the Olympics than any other team. A unique distinction held by the Indian team is being the only squad to win the Olympics without conceding a single goal, an achievement accomplished in 1928 and 1956.
