Asian Games 2023: Indian team wins gold in men's compound archery team event
It was a double delight for India as the women's team also won gold earlier in the day.
The Indian men’s archery team added another gold to the medal tally of the nation after winning the men’s compound archery team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.
The Indian team comprising Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar, emerged victorious over the South Korean team with a final score of 235 points compared to their opponents' 230 points.
From the onset of the match, the Indian team demonstrated strong command over their counterparts. At the conclusion of End 1, India possessed 58 points in contrast to South Korea's 55. In the next two series, India amassed 58 and 59 points respectively, resulting in a cumulative score of 175, while South Korea managed to secure 171 points.
In the lat sequence, the Indian team achieved an impressive score of 60, whereas the South Korean team secured 59 points. Consequently, the final score totaled to 235-230 points, favouring the Indian team.
Earlier in the day, the Indian team competed against Bhutan in the quarterfinal round. Achieving scores of 59, 60, 58 and 58 points respectively in each end, compared to Bhutan's 54, 56, 57 and 54 points, India emerged victorious with a final score of 235-221. As a result, they advanced to the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, India faced the team from Chinese Taipei. The match started with a neck-to-neck battle, as India scored 59 points, just to stay a single point ahead of their counterpart. But, in the next two series, the Indian team scored 58 and 59 points respectively in response to Chinese Taipei’s 55 and 52.
Although both the teams accumulated 59 points each in the final series, till then India had a healthy lead of 11 points that helped them to march into the final.
In addition, in the morning, Indian women archers also won gold in the women’s compound archery team event at the Asian Games 2023.
