India Aims for More Glory on Day 10 of the Asian Games 2023

On day 9 of the Asian Games 2023, the Indian contingent continued its impressive run following a medal spree on October 1. Parul Chaudhary, a defending Asian Championship gold medalist, secured the silver medal in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a remarkable time of 9:27.63.

Priti Lamba clinched the third spot in the women's 3000m steeplechase final, achieving a personal best time of 9:43.32. Her outstanding performance contributed to a double podium finish for the Indian contingent.

In a historic moment for Indian table tennis, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee faced off against North Korea's Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong in the women's doubles semifinals. Although they displayed immense determination, the Indian pair secured the bronze medal. This achievement marked India's first-ever medal in women's doubles table tennis at an Asian Games.

Ancy Sojan Edappilly made her Asian Games debut memorable by achieving a personal best leap of 6.63m in the women's long jump, securing the silver medal.

The 4x400m mixed team relay squad, consisting of Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi, Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh, and Subha Venkatesan, set a new national record with an exceptional time of 3:14.34. Their remarkable performance earned them the silver medal, showcasing India's strength in relay events.

India is on the verge of surpassing its previous best medal tally of 70 medals from the 2018 Jakarta Games in the Asian Games 2023. The nation has high hopes for more victories in the coming days. Here are some of the medal contenders:

Preeti Pawar advanced to the semifinals in the women's 54kg division by defeating Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan with a split decision of 4-1. This victory secured Pawar's first medal at the Asian Games and a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Lovlina Borgohain, a favorite in the women's 75kg category, dominated her way into the semifinals with a unanimous decision victory over the Republic of Korea's Suyeon Seong. In the Men's +92kg category, Narender Berwal aims to bring home another gold for India.

Sonia Devi Phairembam secured a spot in the final of the women's kayak single 500m with a second-place finish in the qualifiers. The women's teams will also strive for success in the Kayak Four 500m and Canoe Double 200m finals.

Vithya Ramraj: Women's 400m Hurdles Finals

Vithya Ramraj equalled a 39-year-old national record held by PT Usha to qualify for the women's 400m hurdles final. She is the favorite to secure another podium finish for India.

Mohammed Afsal and Krishna Kumar: Men's 800m Finals

Mohammed Afsal and Krishna Kumar qualified for the finals of the Men's 800m after impressive performances in their heats. They aim to add more medals to India's athletics tally.

Parul Chaudhary & Ankita: Women's 5000m Finals

Having already clinched a silver in the women's 3000m finals, Parul Chaudhary will contend for another medal in the women's 5000m finals. She will be joined by her compatriot Ankita, who also seeks a podium finish.

Praveen Chithravel: Men's Triple Jump Finals
