The country added nine more medals on Friday.

Day 13 (October 6) of the ongoing Hangzhou Asian Games 2023, the Indian contingent experienced a momentous occasion that will be etched in the annals of the country's sporting achievements. It was a day of great significance, as the athletes confirmed their exceptional prowess and contributed to the rich tapestry of Indian sports history.

Indian athletes were today in action in 16 different sports at the Asian Games 2023. Starting from events in soft tennis, athletes also represented the country in archery, badminton, bridge, chess, equestrian, hockey, ju-jitsu, kayaking and canoeing, kabaddi, roller skating, sepaktakraw, sport climbing, volleyball and wrestling.

Compared to the previous day, the Indian contingent achieved commendable success on the world stage, securing a greater number of medals. The distinguished disciplines of wrestling, archery, and badminton added to India's glory.

However, it was the sensational triumphs in sepaktakraw, bridge, and hockey that truly captivated the attention of spectators.

Number of medals presented to Indian athletes on 6th October

The tally of medals experienced a significant boost, as an additional nine medals were added to the previous day's count of 86. Commencing the day, India's Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simranjeet Kaur secured the bronze medal in the recurve archery women's team event after a convincing victory over Vietnam with a score of 6-2.

HS Prannoy settled for the bronze medal in the men's singles badminton event, as he lost the semi-final match to Li Shifeng from China by a score of 21-16, 21-9. In another noteworthy achievement, the Indian team secured a historic bronze medal in the Sepaktakraw Women's Regu event after losing the semifinal match to Thailand with a score of 2-0.

The sport of archery witnessed another commendable achievement as the Indian archers Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Tushar Prabhakar Shelke faced tough competition in the final match of the men's recurve team event against the formidable South Korean team. Despite their valiant efforts, the Indian archers gracefully accepted the silver medal, as the final result saw them trailing with 5-1 set points.

Following the aforementioned achievements, three medals were secured in the discipline of wrestling. Sonam Malik clinched the bronze medal in the Women's 62kg category, Kiran Bishoi in the Women's 76kg category, and Aman Sehrawat in the Men's freestyle 57kg category.

A silver by Raju Tolani, Ajay Prabhakar Kahre, Rajeshwar Tewari, and Sumit Mukherjee was lost in the final match to Hong Kong China by 238.1-152 in men’s team event in bridge.

Finally, the day ended with a significant gold medal by the Indian men’s hockey team after defeating Japan 5-1.

At the conclusion of day 13, India continues to maintain a robust position in the fourth place of the medal table, having accumulated a total of 95 medals. Amongst these achievements are 22 gold, 34 silver, and 39 bronze medals.

While China is still leading the list with 354 medals, Japan and South Korea are at the following positions with 169 medals each. With 47 gold medals compared to 36 by Korea, Japan are holding the second position.

What to expect from the Indian contingent on October 7?

History is going to be written tomorrow as the march for 100 medals will be reflected on the medal table. With an assurance of medals in archery, kabaddi, badminton and cricket, it requires only a brief period of anticipation to behold the extraordinary accomplishment.

On the following day, the center of attention will be on Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, as well as Deepak Punia and the Indian men's cricket team, who will undoubtedly strive for gold in their respective competitions.
