Asian Games 2023: Updated medal tally after Day 11, 4th October
India bagged three gold medals on Wednesday.
A total of 46 events saw action on Day 11 of the Asian Games 2023. 15 of those 46 events were categories wit medals up for grabs. It offered the participating countries a boatload of opportunities to increase their medal tally.
China has won medals in virtually all disciplines at the 2023 edition of the Asian Games, including eSports which marked its Asian Games debut in the current edition of the games. The hosts snagged the gold, defeating Mongolia 2-1 in DOTA 2. The Chinese participants have breached the 300-medal threshold, accumulating 316 medals for their country.
The Indian contingent pocketed more than a handful of medals today, having turned in winning performances across athletics, archery, squash, wrestling and even boxing. India pocketed three golds in men’s javelin, men’s 4x100m relay and archery.
Two more golds are on the line, as India has made it to the finals of the squash mixed doubles and men’s singles categories. Saurav Ghosal faces off against Malaysian Eain Yow Ng in the men’s singles final. Deepika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Sandhu are in contention for a gold medal when the Indian squash duo face Aifa Azman-Mohd Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia in the mixed doubles final.
Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy remain in the hunt for gold in women’s doubles and men’s singles categories as the duo have progressed to the quarterfinal stage.

At the close of Day 11, China has got the top spot all wrapped up, and there is no competition for its dominance at this stage. The host has a total of 316 medals, with 171 gold. Japan and South Korea occupy the next two spots and are neck to neck with a total of 147 and 148 medals. It is Japan that has an edge in the number of gold medals — 37 to South Korea’s 33.
South Korean skater Jung Cheol-won lost his nation a gold. He chose to celebrate too early in the men's speed skating 3,000m relay final, assuming he had won gold. Jung raised his hands to signal victory before crossing the finish line, handing Taiwan’s Huang Yu-Lin who was just behind the win.
India holds steady at fourth place and ended the day with 81 medals, their best performance ever at the Asian Games, bettering their performance at Jakarta four years ago. India has consistently performed well in the current edition, winning 18 golds, 31 silver, and 32 bronze medals.
Uzbekistan, Taiwan and Thailand, too, have increased their medals tally. Uzbekistan has 54 medals (16 gold, 16 silver, 22 bronze), Taiwan 46 medals (12 gold, 14 silver, 20 bronze), and Thailand 46 medals (10 gold, 12 silver, 24 gold) to round off the fifth, sixth, and seventh spots on the table.
