India edges closer to the 20-medal mark after clinching five medals on Day 5 at the Asian Games 2026. While gold has remained elusive—apart from the women’s cricket team, who won the country’s only gold medal so far—the 499-member contingent has already won seven silvers and nine bronze medals and will hope to increase the count on Friday.
The athletics campaign started well for India, with Seema Kumari and the 4x400m mixed relay team winning bronze and silver medals respectively, on the opening day. Day 2 is likely to bring home more medals as Gulveer Singh, fresh from his historic feat at CWG, features in the men’s 10,000m final.

In action will also be Manpreet Kaur and Krishna Jayasnakar Menon in the women’s shot put final. Meanwhile, national record holder Baranica Elangoval and Sindhusree Ganesh will contest for medals in the women’s pole vault final.
Medal events aside, Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh will return to the track hoping to qualify for the men’s 100m final. Vishal TK, Kiran and Prachi will also aim for the same in the men’s and women’s 400m heats.

Nirupama Devi will target a medal in weightlifting women’s 61kg, hoping to replicate Mirabai Chanu’s feat with a maiden Asiad medal.
Meanwhile, badminton individual action begins on Friday and on the opening day itself, some of India’s top shuttlers will be in action.
Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand will take on Tsang Hiu Yan-Lui Lok Lok in the women’s doubles first round while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will face Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Peeratchai Sukphun of Thailand.
In kabaddi, the Indian teams will look to continue their momentum and reach the gold medal match. while shooting and swimming medal events continue on Day 6.

India’s day will begin early at 4:14 am with surfing followed by athletics, equestrian, fencing and badminton events.
