India have sent 12 archers to the Aichi-Nagoya Games
India have sent a 508-member contingent to the upcoming Asian Games 2026, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. This will include 12 archers, who will look to lead the medal charge for India.
The country’s archers had a wonderful outing at the Hangzhou 2022 Games. The sport brought five golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. Compound archers Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha starred with three gold medals each.
Surekha is in the Indian archery contingent for the Aichi-Nagoya Games as well, and she will compete in the individual and team compound events. She will be joined by two-time Archery World Cup silver medallists, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep.
Asian Archery Championships silver medallist Sahil Jadhav and youngster Kushal Dalal will lead the men’s compound team.
In the recurve squad, Dhiraj Bommadevara will lead the medal charge. The Paris 2024 Olympian recently made history by becoming the first Indian male recurve archer to win gold at the Archery World Cup Final. Fellow Olympian Ankita Bhakat will also compete, along with two-time Archery World Cup gold medallist Kumkum Mohod.
