Something feels different about the Indian boxing camp heading into Aichi-Nagoya this time. They are fresh off a stellar Commonwealth Games 2026, where the team brought home ten medals, with seven of them gold. This eleven-member squad, five women and six men, is walking into Japan with real belief rather than just hope.
Much of that confidence comes from proven form. Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Ankush Panghal and Priya Ghanghas all won gold at the Commonwealth Games, while Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh and Narendar Berwal picked up silver. What makes this edition feel higher stakes is what comes after it. The Boxing Federation of India recently announced a new selection policy that ties performance in Aichi-Nagoya directly to the road ahead.
Any boxer who wins a medal here earns a fast-tracked spot at the World Boxing Championships 2027 in Kazakhstan, which is the first qualifying event for LA 2028.
If they fall short of a medal, the path gets a lot longer, running through national trials and additional qualifying tournaments in China, Italy, and Hungary over the next two years.
