Asian Games 2026: Chikitha-Sahil win gold in compound archery mixed team; secure LA Olympics 2028 quota
This is India’s second gold in Archery.
South Korea’s Choi Eun Gyu shot a nine, and that was all India needed. With this, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won the compound mixed team gold at the Asian Games 2026 on September 30. India also secured a quota for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The pair had already survived a close match. In the semi-final, they beat Thailand 156-155 after leading 39-37 in the first end. Thailand’s Kanoknapus Kaewchomphu was given a nine after a review, and Peerawat Rattanapongkiat shot an eight.
The final started just as tightly. All four archers opened with 10s. India then shot a perfect 40 in the opening end, while Korea’s Park dropped to a nine and Korea scored 39.
In the second end, India added four more 10s, while Korea again scored 39, giving India an 80-78 lead at the halfway stage. After 10 arrows, the score stood at 100-98 in India’s favour.

As the pressure mounted, Korea reached 117 after 12 arrows, while Chikitha and Sahil both shot 9s to reduce India’s lead.

Park and Choi opened the last end with two 10s each. Chikitha and Sahil matched them, and Korea then finished with 10s from both archers. India now needed 19 to tie and 20 to win.
Chikitha shot a nine. Sahil answered with a 10, and the scores were level. A shoot-off, a tie-breaker where each team shoots again, decided the medal.
Chikitha and Park both hit 10s, though Park’s arrow was closer to the centre. Sahil then shot a 10. Choi responded with a nine, sealing gold for India.

Chikitha has a second medal story from these Games. She was also part of the Indian women’s compound team alongside Prithika Pradeep and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, which defeated China 238-234 in the final. The score equalled the world record and helped India retain the title.
The mixed team win was India’s eighth gold of the Games. The country now has 54 medals in total: 8 gold, 21 silver and 25 bronze.
