India have sent 20 fencers to the Aichi-Nagoya Games

With a 508-member contingent, India will look to have a successful outing during the Asian Games 2026, which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The country will look to match their 106-medal haul from the previous edition in Hangzhou.

Despite participating in 19 editions of the continental tournament so far, India are yet to clinch their first-ever Asian Games medal in fencing. At the Hangzhou 2022 Games, India sent a strong fencing contingent.

However, only CA Bhavani Devi and Tanishka Khatri managed to progress to the quarter-finals of the women’s Sabre and Épée events, respectively. The rest, meanwhile, failed to progress beyond the Round of 32 stage.

Both Bhavani Devi and Tanishka Khatri will aim to surpass that mark and clinch a podium finish at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Commonwealth Fencing Championships gold medallists Karan Singh Gurjar and Vishal Thapar will compete in the men’s events.
