India are yet to win a fencing medal at the Asian Games

India are sending a 20-member fencing contingent to the upcoming Asian Games 2026, taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, between September 19 and October 4. The squad was selected by the Fencing Association of India (FAI) using national rankings and recent performances at international tournaments.

Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist C. A. Bhavani Devi will lead the Indian squad, which is still searching for its maiden Asian Games medal.

Bhavani Devi, who is India’s first Olympic fencer and competed at the Tokyo 2020 Games, remains India’s best hope of earning a podium finish at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. However, the veteran fencer is returning from a two-month ban.

Devi will be joined by several emerging fencers. Taniksha Khatri and Prachi Lohan, who won gold and bronze, respectively, at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, will compete in the women’s épée event.

Karan Singh Gurjar, who won gold at the Commonwealth Championships, will take part in the men’s sabre event. Bronze-medallist Tejas Manoj Patil will participate in the men’s foil event.
