India at Asian Games 2026: Weightlifting schedule, squad, & live streaming details

India have sent four weightlifters to the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

India are gearing up for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with the continental showpiece scheduled from September 19 to October 4. This will mark the country’s 20th consecutive participation in the continental tournament.

Indian athletes put up a spectacular performance at the Hangzhou 2022 Games, clinching 106 medals, including 28 golds, 38 silvers, and 40 bronzes. Shooting, athletics, and archery brought multiple medals.

However, a sport failed to make any mark — weightlifting. Traditionally one of India’s stronger disciplines, weightlifting saw the country send just a couple of athletes to the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, with neither securing a podium finish.

India’s weightlifting contingent for the Asian Games 2026 has also faced a setback. The country had initially named four women and one man for the tournament. However, Commonwealth Games 2026 silver medallist Rishikanta Singh had to withdraw due to injury.

The medal charge will fall on Mirabai Chanu, who will compete in the women’s 49 kg event. The 32-year-old is still searching for her maiden Asian Games medal. Gyaneshwari Yadav and Harjinder Kaur, who won silver at the CWG 2026, are also part of the team, along with Nirupama Devi Seram.
