Top 5 memorable moments for India in shooting at Asian Games 2026
India won 15 shooting medals at the Asian Games 2026.
India finished second in the shooting medal tally at the Asian Games 2026 with 3 gold, 8 silver, and 4 bronze medals. India’s shooting campaign was a major disappointment overall.
The team had won seven gold medals at the previous edition, including five in team events. India could not repeat that performance this time, although several encouraging aspects also emerged from this campaign.
The pistol events were underwhelming, with India managing just a couple of medals across the eight events. Overall, the campaign was fairly average, although there were still some encouraging signs. India also produced a few memorable moments in shooting, particularly in the trap events.
Here are the top five most memorable moments from India’s shooting campaign at the Asian Games 2026.

5. Double Podium finish in 10m Air Rifle Men
India won two medals in the men’s 10m air rifle at the same edition for the first time in Asian Games history. Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil won silver and bronze, respectively, to help India secure multiple medals in one event.
Effectively, they were the only double podium finishers for India in shooting at the Asian Games, making it even more special.
Rudrankksh Patil, who narrowly missed out on a medal at the previous edition after finishing fourth, finally secured an individual Asian Games medal. Meanwhile, Himanshu made an impressive debut at the Games, winning silver.
4. Three golds in Olympic events
Although India won 7 shooting gold medals at the previous edition, five came from team events. Hence, winning three gold medals at Olympic events this time is a positive sign for India’s path ahead.
India’s opening gold medal came courtesy of Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet, who triumphed in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. This was followed by Neeru’s individual gold in women’s trap and the Trap Mixed Team gold won by Neeru and Kynan Chenai.
3. Esha Singh winning silver in a dramatic final

Esha Singh secured India’s first and only individual medal in pistol shooting after a dramatic final in the women’s 25m pistol. She came through five shoot-offs, as well as a brief stoppage caused by an issue on the officials’ end, to keep her composure and eventually claim silver.
Esha was tied for second with North Korea’s Kim Hyon-suk, leading to three shoot-offs between the two. During the second shoot-off, the competition was briefly halted due to a technical issue involving the officials.
Esha remained composed after the interruption and went on to win the third shoot-off against Kim. She then faced two more shoot-offs against China’s shooter before eventually securing the silver medal. Even though she eventually lost the shoot-off, Esha had done enough to secure the silver medal.
2. Dominating performance by the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team to win gold
India’s first shooting gold came in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event, and it arrived emphatically, with Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet winning by a huge 6.6-point margin over the silver-medal position.
What made the victory even more impressive was that neither Suruchi nor Kamaljeet had reached the individual finals. They made a remarkable comeback in the mixed team event and, with a composed performance, secured India’s first shooting gold medal of the Games.
For Suruchi, the gold also served as redemption after a disappointing individual outing. She bounced back with a high score in both qualification and the final, playing a key role in India’s successful title charge.
1. Double gold for Neeru Dhanda

Neeru Dhanda became the only Indian shooter to win two gold medals at this edition of the Asian Games. Neeru arrived in strong form after her recent ISSF World Cup victory in Italy and carried that momentum into the Games, delivering an impressive campaign.
She won gold in the women’s individual trap and also teamed up with Kynan Chenai to win gold in the mixed trap event. In the process, Neeru became the first Indian woman to win a trap medal at the Asian Games and the first Indian shooter to win gold in the event.
