Roshibina Devi bags silver in wushu at Asian Games 2026
This is her second consecutive silver medal at the Games.
Indian wushu fighter Naorem Roshibina Devi settled for silver in the women’s sanda 60kg final at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday after losing 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall in Nagoya.
Zhang dominated the contest and won the gold medal by securing both rounds with identical 5-0 scores. The result gives Roshibina her third straight Asian Games medal.
She won silver in the same category at the 2022 Hangzhou Games and bronze at Jakarta in 2018. No other Indian woman has won three consecutive Asian Games medals in wushu, making the 25-year-old the first to achieve this.
Roshibina, born on December 30, 2000, in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, reached the final after beating Macao’s Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the quarter-final. That win guaranteed her at least a bronze under Sanda’s format.
She then defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in Wednesday’s semi-final. Earlier in the competition, she also beat Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, the 2023 world champion, one of the bigger scalps of her campaign.

Roshibina’s place in the squad was in doubt just weeks before the Games began. She had been sidelined with a knee injury a year earlier before losing to Divyanshi Choudhary in the national trials, which saw her miss out on India’s seven-member wushu squad cleared by the Sports Ministry on August 22.
Choudhary was later ruled out after suffering a partial high-grade ACL tear at the SCO Wushu Sanda Championship in Hubei, China, an injury that worsened after she rejoined the national camp in August. The Wushu Association of India (WAI) named Roshibina as her replacement on medical grounds.
Roshibina’s silver was India’s 14th medal at the Asian Games 2026 and the second on Day 6. Earlier Thursday, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won bronze in the men’s double sculls (6:13.25), finishing 3.48 seconds behind China’s gold-winning pair, Yi Xudi and Nie Yide.
In the men’s single sculls, Balraj Panwar finished fourth in 6:54.80, ending 15 seconds behind gold medallist Zhiwei Deng of China.
