Asian Games 2026 Day 10 Results: Historic shooting gold, India extend 44-year women's relay streak ft. Neeru Dhanda, Vithya Ramraj

India clinched two gold medals on Day 9, with athletics action concluding on Tuesday

India had their best day in Asian Games 2026, winning twin gold medals on Tuesday, September 29. In the penultimate event of the day, the Indian women beat favourites and Games record holders Bahrain to clinch gold in the women’s 4x400m relay.

Tamil Nadu’s Vithya Ramraj won her third medal in Aichi-Nagoya as her teammates Prachi, Poovamma Machettira, and Kiran ran their hearts out to secure a gold medal. India have been winning a medal in this event since 1982, and the women’s team have ensured that the streak is maintained in Asian Games 2026 as well.

The Indian shooting contingent got the second gold with Neeru Dhanda breaking the Asian Games record in the women’s individual trap event. It is India’s first-ever medal in individual women’s shotgun events, and Neeru has struck gold in her first attempt, winning India’s fifth gold at the Asian Games 2026.

The 26-year-old shooter has been in great form as he topped the qualification charts and, in the finals, her precision was relentless. Neeru scored 28/30 in the finals, shattering the previous record, which was 24. Earlier in the day, she teamed up with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer to win the silver medals in the team event. The men’s team couldn’t replicate it as they finished fifth.

India won bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay and the mixed team 4x100m relay as well. Pooja Singh won bronze in the women’s high jump final, in which she was leading for most of it. Gulveer Singh secured his third medal from Asian Games 2026, securing a third-place finish in the men’s 5000m final.

Indian Archers and Boxers continued their impressive start to move ahead in the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Ankush Panghal beat the world champion Fazliddin Erkinboev in the semifinals of men’s 80kg.

Parveen Hooda beat her Chinese opponent 5-0 to make it to the finals in women’s 65kg. Both Parveen and Ankush would want to win gold to increase India’s tally of yellow metals. Narender Berwal had to settle for a bronze in the men’s 90+kg category after losing in the semifinals.

Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan qualified for the quarterfinals in men’s recurve individual events. Kumkum Mohod did it in the women’s event. A winning day in lawn tennis for the Indian singles players, who won their second-round matches. The men’s doubles pair of Anirudh Chandrashekhar and Balaji Narayanaswamy also had it easy in their second round.

Indian women’s team continued their winning start in squash as they blanked Iran 3-0. The Indian men’s volleyball team secured their third win of the Aichi-Nagoya Games. They came back from 2-0 behind to beat Qatar, which is a higher-ranked side. India will face Pakistan in the quarter-final clash, having finished at the top of Pool C.

Track cycling and canoe slalom events saw the Indian cyclists qualify for the next round, while the kurash and surfing results were disappointing.
