Here we will discuss a couple of scenarios to find out India’s opponent. As confirmed, the second team to finish in Group A will face India in the quarterfinal. The last game in this group will be played between Nepal and Japan on Saturday.
It will decide India’s opponent. Afghanistan have already beaten Japan and then lost to Nepal in their second game. Nepal’s win over Afghanistan have given them a big boost. If Nepal beat Japan on Saturday, they will finish Group A at the top.
That means India will face Afghanistan in the quarterfinal. But if Nepal lose to Japan, then all three teams will have two points in Group A. Then the NRR will decide the two qualifying teams.
As of now, Afghanistan and Nepal have +0.846 and +0.842 NRR, respectively, while Japan have an NRR of -2.400. So, if all three teams finish with two points each, then Nepal will face India in the quarterfinal. For Japan to qualify, they need a record win, which looks a little difficult.
