Revealed: Why Indian Men's Cricket Team will have different accommodation for Asian Games 2026?

India will open their campaign in Asian Games 2026 on September 28.
Team India are all set to be in action in the upcoming men’s Asian Games 2026. India have had a direct qualification to the quarterfinal of the tournament. They will play their match on September 28 (Monday) at Korogi Sports Park.
The 20th edition of Asian Games will be run between September 24 and October 3, and all the matches will be played in Nisshin. The women’s tournament is underway, and India Women will be competing in the semifinal on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has arranged a separate accommodation for India’s men’s side for the tournament. Notably, the women’s side is staying at the accommodation provided by the Asian Games official.
However, the men’s team will have a different place provided by the Indian board. In fact, they will be the only team in the tournament to have different arrangements during the tournament.
Why will Team India stay at a different place during the Asian Games 2026?

As per the norms, all the participating teams are provided accommodation facilities by the Asian Games management. However, the BCCI will arrange a separate stay for the men’s side. Notably, Shreyas Iyer-led Team India will have a full-strength side.
Other than players, coaches, trainers, analysts, physios, and more will travel with the team. The complete support ecosystem exceeds the limit of the arrangements made by the Asian Games council. Hence, the Indian men’s side will have a different accommodation provided by the BCCI.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told The Times of India:
“BCCI has arranged its own arrangement for the men’s team since the contingent is much bigger than the permissible number of members because of the size of the support staff. We don’t want to segregate the men’s team during the tournament.”
There are a few cricket boards that have raised concern over the facilities provided in Japan. However, Saikia said that the decision by the board is not because of such concerns. He also confirmed that the women’s team is staying in the facilities because the size of the squad is within the permissible number.
Team India are the current champions in both men’s and women’s setups. Shreyas Iyer will lead the men’s side while Harmanpreet Kaur is leading the women’s side in the ongoing edition.
