1st Indian Open 2025 Highlights & Replay: Animesh Kujur wins men's 200m; Annu Rani tops podium in javelin throw

The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar is all set to host the country’s first-ever Indian Open, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet, which is an annual series of track and field competitions – the second tier of global meetings after the elite Diamond League, on Sunday, August 10.
Organized annually by World Athletics, the Continental Tour has four levels, namely Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Challenger. The first-ever Indian Open is set to be a bronze-level meet with more than 150 athletes from 17 different countries participating in the prestigious event in 20 disciplines.
While the men’s athletics events at the Indian Open 2025 include, the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 5000m, long jump, triple jump, javelin throw, and the 4x400m relay, the women’s events will have the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 100m hurdles, long jump, javelin throw 4x400m relay and a mixed 4x400m relay.

Athletes from these countries would be participating in the Indian Open 2025: India, Malaysia, Iraq, Philippines, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Republic of Korea, Portugal, Somalia, Iran, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Bhutan, Djibouti, Turkmenistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka.
The Continental Tour is set to have a lot of top Indian athletes participating, namely Jeswin Aldrin, Murali Sreeshankar, Annu Rani, Animesh Kaur, Mohamed Afsal, Amlan Borgohain, and many more.
The men’s javelin throw event is set to steal the limelight at the Continental Tour. Though Neeraj Chopra is set to miss the competition, Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh will lead India’s challenge.
While India has 99 athletes participating in this event, Nepal has 13, with Sri Lanka and Malaysia sending 10 and nine athletes, respectively. South Africa and Great Britain will have four athletes each representing their countries.
“This is the country’s first Continental Tour event, and we are hoping for a successful competition so that the world knows we can host this kind of event,” Athletics Federation of India (AFI) President Bahadur Singh Sagoo said in a press conference in Delhi.
