The continental competition was postponed because of the Covid-19 outbreak in China.
The AFI (Athletics Federation of India) has recently released the qualification marks for the upcoming Asian Games 2023 to be held in Chengdu, China. Several Indian athletes will look to achieve the qualification criteria in the upcoming events starting with the Open Throws event to be held on 01 March 2023. With the Asian Games set to be in the month of August-September, the athletes have a good number of competitions to compete in and breach the qualification criteria.

In the field event the long jump and triple jump section there are many athletes who can breach the qualification mark. In Long Jump ( Murali Sreeshankar, Jeswin Aldrin, and Anees Yahiya) all three have breached the 8.00m mark but for multi-sporting events, only two athletes per event can qualify from a country. So the three athletes will be having stiff competition among themselves and similarly, in the triple jump ( Abdulla Aboobeckar, Eldhose Paul, Karthik, and Praveen) all have breached the 16.60m mark before and they too will be having good competition among themselves.
Siva Subramanium who recently created a National Record in the pole vault during the National Games will once again have to create a fresh NR to qualify for the Asian Games. Siva currently has recorded 5.31m and now has to jump 0.9cm more to breach the mark.
In the track events of athletics, Jyoti Yaarraji in the 100m hurdles will be the player to watch out for in the sprint category. The 400m relay team has been performing well at the Asian Games and this time too will look to perform in the same fashion. India will have to form a core team in order to perform well in the relay events as the current team has performed poorly at the Commonwealth Games and other events.
The COVID-19 cases in China have once again begun to rise up rapidly but there is no official announcement as to any postponement of the Asian Games.
