Abdulla Aboobacker finishes sixth in men's triple jump at Florence Diamond League 2023
This was the athlete's maiden Diamond League appearance.
India's Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medallist Abdulla Aboobacker Naraingolintevid leapt 16.37m and finished sixth in men's triple jump at the Florence Diamond League 2023 held in Italy on Friday (June 2nd). The 27-year-old, making his Diamond League debut put up a below-average performance with a best jump of 16.37m (below his season-best jump of 16.80m). He started the event with a foul and overall committed three fouls out of the five attempts.

A total of eight athletes participated in the event and only the top three athletes could go for all six attempts with the rest settling with five attempts. Abdulla with this performance fetched home three ranking points and will be looking to participate in more foreign meets going forward.
The Keralite came into the tournament after winning the bronze medal at the Montreuil International Meeting on Wednesday (May 28th) with his season-best jump of 16.80m.
Abdulla has participated in six tournaments so far this season and is yet to record a 17m. He has a personal best jump of 17.19m achieved last year in Bhubaneshwar.
Reigning Diamond League champion Andy Diaz from Cuba won the Florence Diamond League with a personal best mark of 17.75m from his first attempt. Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso claimed the second spot recording 17.68m while Cuba’s Lazaro Martínez, reigning indoor world champion, secured the third spot with a best effort of 17.12m. Meanwhile two-time Olympic champion from the USA, Christian Taylor, secured the seventh spot recording 16.32m.
