Manu DP bags silver medal in men's Javelin Throw with a throw of 81.01m

A Fierce Competition saw Manu clinching Silver at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 with the effort coming at the last throw.

Manu DP won the silver medal in Men's Javelin Throw with the best throw of 81.01 M. The Gold was won by Japan's Roderik Genki Dean (83.15 M) and the Bronze was won by Pakistan's Muhammad Yasir (79.93 M). This will be Pakistan's First medal at the Asian Athletics Championships since 1991.

Manu who was struggling at the Indian Championships which was held in Bhubaneshwar on 18 and 19 June Last week had come back stronger here in Bangkok. Manu was 2nd after the 4th attempt but Pakistan Yasir throws his best throw of 79.93 M and pushes Manu to the bronze medal position. He then responded well in the pressure situation with his best attempt of 81.01 M to clinch the Silver Medal. Manu's Six throws are as follows 78.22, 79.83, X, 78.78, 75.35, 81.01. He also has the Personal Best of 84.43 M which he recorded at the Indian Grand Prix 2023 at Bhubneshwar.

Rohit Yadav missed this championship due to an elbow injury and he doesn't want to exacerbate his injury as World Championships and Asian Games are just around the corner. Even Tokyo Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj skipped this championship to focus on the upcoming World Championships.

Manu who will qualify for the World Championships in August this year in Budapest, Hungary will aim to do well there and would want to breach the Olympic Qualification mark (85.50 M).
