It was a historic moment for Indian sports when Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra met tennis legend Roger Federer in Zurich. The javelin thrower, who had expressed his admiration for Federer in the past, finally got a chance to interact with his idol and share his experiences and insights.
The two icons from different sporting disciplines had a casual and candid conversation.
Chopra, who became India’s second individual Olympic gold medalist in history at the Tokyo Games in 2021, was overjoyed to meet Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles and is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Chopra took to Twitter to express his gratitude and appreciation for Federer, calling him a sporting icon and an inspiration.
“An absolute honour to meet a sporting icon, whose career has been and continues to be an inspiration to people. I had a great time talking to you, and hopefully we’ll meet again,” Chopra tweeted, along with a picture of him posing with Federer.
Federer, who is currently recovering from knee surgery and has not played competitively since Wimbledon 2021, was equally impressed by Chopra’s remarkable feat and his humble personality.
“I am amazed by how much Neeraj has achieved personally and for his country through his grit and determination. It’s been great to meet him here in Zurich,” the 20-time Grand Slam winner said as quoted by Indian Express
