India made a brilliant start to their campaign at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 in Tehran.

Toor, the two-time Asian Games gold medallist and the Asian record holder in men’s shot put, threw the iron ball to a distance of 19.72 metres in his second attempt, breaking his own previous best of 19.69 metres.
He comfortably beat Kazakhstan’s Ivanov Ivan (19.08m) and Iran’s Mehdi Saberi (18.74m), who settled for the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Yarraji, the 2022 Asian Games silver medallist and the reigning Asian Outdoor champion in the 100m hurdles, clocked 8.12 seconds in the women’s 60m hurdles final, edging past Japan’s Asuka Tereda (8.21s) and Hong Kong’s Lui Lai Yiu (8.26s).
She improved her own national record of 8.13 seconds, which she had set at the same event last year.
Bains, another Asian Games silver medallist, dominated the women’s 1500m race, finishing with a timing of 4:29.55 seconds, more than five seconds ahead of her nearest rival, Kyrgyzstan’s Kalil Kyzy Ainuska (4:35.29).
Kazakhstan’s Bolatbekkyzy Aiana (4:37.20) took the bronze medal.
