He shattered a 19-year-old indoor NR set by Vikas Gowda.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured gold at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 and set a new national indoor record in the process. India’s dominance continued with Jyothi Yarraji and Harmilan Bains triumphing in the 60m hurdles and 1500m races, complementing Tajinderpal Singh Toor’s record-breaking feat.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor clinched the gold medal with a record-breaking throw of 19.72 meters. During his third attempt of the evening, Toor shattered the 19-year-old indoor national record previously held by Vikas Gowda at 19.60 meters, set in 2005 in the USA. Toor further solidified his performance with another impressive throw of 19.27 meters in the event.
Toor maintains his position as the Asian leader in outdoor track and field events, boasting both the Asian and national records with a throw of 21.77 meters achieved in Bhubaneswar last year.
Ivan Ivanov secured the second position with a throw of 19.02 meters, trailing behind Tajinderpal Singh Toor. The bronze medal was claimed by Iran’s Mehdi Saberi, who achieved a throw of 18.74 meters. Meanwhile, another Indian Dhanveer Singh landed in fourth place with a throw of 18.59 meters.
