Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso won the gold medal.
Praveen Chithravel, India’s national record holder in the men’s triple jump, failed to make an impact at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 in Glasgow, finishing 11th with a best jump of 16.45m.
The 22-year-old, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou with a personal best of 17.37m, could not replicate his form. He started with a modest 15.76m in his first attempt and improved slightly to 16.29m and 16.45m in his next two jumps. However, he was far behind the qualifying mark of 16.90m for the final and ended up in bottom half of the 12-man field.
The gold medal went to Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso, who set a new African indoor record of 17.53m in his final attempt. He became the first athlete from his country to win a World Indoor title. Yasser Mohammed Triki of Algeria, who jumped 17.35m, also a national indoor record, claimed silver while Tiago Pereira of Portugal bagged silver with a personal best of 17.08m.
Chithravel, who holds the national record in men’s triple jump at 17.37m, returned with a personal season best 16.45m but will have work to do to get near medal conversations in future events.

Meanwhile, fellow Indian Jeswin Aldrin also drew a blank in his event at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024. Aldrin, also a national holder, finished 13th in men’s long jump with a best effort of 7.69m.
The Indian hit the mark in his very first attempt but fouled the next two to finish outside the top eight. He was well short of his best having just clinched bronze at the Belgrade Indoor meeting last month with a jump of 7.83m.
