Ancy Sojan withdraws from Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour: Reports

Ancy Sojan’s unavailability will be a cause of concern for India.

India’s long jumper Ancy Sojan has withdrawn from the 1st Indian Open World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour, scheduled to take place on Sunday (August 10) at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar.

According to reports from NNIS Sports, the Asian Games silver medalist has withdrawn from the upcoming event after sustaining a muscle strain during the recently concluded World University Games 2025.

“The strain is in my takeoff leg, which I got during the World University Games. At that time, I thought it was just effort pain, but it came back in training last Monday during a speed session,” Ancy told NNIS Sports.

Ancy earlier felt that the pain was just temporary and would ease with time. However, she felt severe pain in her takeoff leg when she returned to the training field a few days ago. Thus, the Indian long jumper decided to withdraw from the 1st Indian Open World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour.

“I felt that if I push further without a conditioned body, it could be more dangerous,” Ancy added.

Ancy Sojan is unable to compete further in the ongoing season due to muscle strain. The 24-year-old will also not be able to participate in the upcoming World Athletics Championships, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21.
