India’s Ankita Dhyani shattered the women’s 2000m steeplechase national record, clocking a time of 6:13.92 seconds at the Jerusalem Athletics Meet 2025 on Thursday, August 14.

The previous national record of 6:1438 seconds in the women’s 2000m steeplechase event was held by Parul Chaudhary, an Asian Games medallist.

The 2025 edition of the Grand Slam Jerusalem, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver-level event, was held at the National Athletics Stadium in Givat Ram. Several top athletes, especially from European nations, competed in the one-day competition.

Talking about the event, six athletes – one each from India, Israel, Denmark, Romania, Moldavia, and Cyprus – entered the fray in the final of the women’s 2000m steeplechase event on Thursday.

Ankita Dhyani finished first in the race, clocking her personal best in the category. Adva Cohen from the host nation Israel secured the second spot with a time of 6:15.20 seconds, while Denmark’s Juliane Hvid took third place with a time of 6:17.80 seconds.

Romania’s Stella Rutto and Moldavia’s Andreea Stavila were the next two to complete the race with times of 6:20.11 seconds and 6:24.81 seconds, respectively.

Chrystalla Chadjipolydorou from Cyprus was the last, having completed the race in 7:04.41 seconds. All six participants in the race registered their personal bests.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s Samuel Duguna won the men’s 2000m steeplechase final at the Grand Slam Jerusalem 2025 on Thursday. He clocked a time of 5:32.78 seconds to register his personal best in the event. Portugal’s Etson Barros (5:39.71 seconds) and Zemenu Muchie (5:41.49 seconds) finished second and third, respectively.

The hurdle height in the women’s race was 76.2m. On the other hand, the height of the hurdles in the men’s event was set at 91.4m
