Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, clinched the gold medal at the 35th edition of the Pakistan National Games 2025 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Monday, December 8. He registered a best throw of 81.81m in his final attempt to take home the top honours.

The 28-year-old was defending his title, having won the gold medal in men’s javelin throw in the 34th edition of the National Games in 2023.

The Olympic champion represented the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in the tournament. His teammate Yasir Sultan of WAPDA won the silver medal with a best throw of 70.77m, while Abrar Ali from Pakistan Army bagged the bronze medal, registering a best throw of 67.78m.

The 35th National Games were staged in Karachi for the first time in 18 years, with star athlete Nadeem’s participation adding significant momentum and excitement to the local sporting scene.

Nadeem was given the distinction of serving as the flag-bearer for the nation and marked the occasion by performing a ceremonial javelin throw at the opening ceremony. Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, graced the event with his presence.

Recently, Nadeem competed at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh. He clinched the gold medal with a best effort of 83.05m and was the only athlete with an 80m+ throw. His teammate Muhammad Yasir Sultan, on the other hand, won a silver medal with a throw of 76.04m.

Pakistan Army won the previous edition of the National Games with 398 medals, including 199 gold, 133 silver, and 66 bronze. WAPDA finished second with 290 medals (109 gold, 101 silver, and 80 bronze), while Pakistan Navy bagged third palce with 109 medals (28 gold, 32 silver, and 49 bronze).

The tournament was first held in 1948 and is a biennial tournament. The Pakistan Army has won the title a record 27 titles, while Services have won thrice. Punjab, Pakistan Railways, and Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority have one trophy each. In the 1954 edition in Sahiwal, no trophy was awarded to any of the participating teams.
