Arshad Nadeem will be one of Pakistan’s biggest medal hopes at the upcoming Asian Games 2026, with the country set to send a 168-member contingent to Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
The Asian giants have featured in every edition of the event except the inaugural one and will be aiming to improve on their performance from the previous edition in Hangzhou.
Pakistani athletes won just one silver and two bronze medals at the Hangzhou 2022 Games, marking one of the country’s poorest performances in Asian Games history. Fans will be hoping for a stronger showing this year, with much of Pakistan’s medal hopes resting on star javelin thrower Nadeem.
The 29-year-old javelin thrower is the reigning Olympic and Asian Athletics champion. He won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a mammoth throw of 92.97m, an Asian and Olympic record.
He also won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea, with a best throw of 86.40m.
However, the two-time Olympian has endured a challenging period since then after suffering a muscle injury to his right calf that required surgery. He returned to competition at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, finishing 10th with a best throw of 82.75m.

At the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern 2026, Nadeem finished ninth with a best throw of 78.47m. He entered the Commonwealth Games 2026 with high expectations but once again finished ninth in the final with a best throw of 77.41m.
He was last seen in action at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026 in Budapest, where he finished fifth with an 81.49m throw.
Nadeem will hope to return to his best form at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. He has a point to prove, having failed to register a single valid throw at the 2022 edition in Hangzhou.
