Jyothi Yarraji wins gold in women's 100m hurdles at Asian Athletics Championships 2025

Jyothi Yarraji broke the competition record in pursuit of gold in 100m hurdles.
Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles event at the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, Republic of Korea. The national record holder clocked a time of 12.96 seconds to set a new competition record on Thursday, May 29.
She also defended her title in the women’s 100m hurdles event, having won the previous edition of the Asian Athletics Championships in 2023 with a time of 13.09 seconds. The 25-year-old athlete’s personal best is 12.78 seconds, which is also her national record in the event.
Eight athletes took the field in the women’s 100m hurdles final on Thursday at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi. Two players from China, and one each from India, Japan, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, and Hong Kong competed in the race.
Japan’s Yumi Tanaka bagged the silver medal, while Chinese athlete Wu Yanni clinched the bronze medal in the event. The Japanese athlete took 0.007 seconds lesser to complete the race and thus edged past Yanni on the podium.

India’s Jyothi Yarraji joins an elite list of athletes who successfully defended their gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Asian Athletics Championships. Japan’s Emi Akimoto won three consecutive Asian Championships gold medals and became the first player to achieve the feat. She clinched the gold medals in 1979, 1981, and 1983.
Chinese hurdlers Zhang Yu (1991, 1993), Su Yinping (2003, 2005), and Sun Yawei (2009, 2011) are three others in the list to have defended their 100m hurdles title at the Asian Athletics Championships.
