Asian Relays 2024: Where and how to watch

Thailand will be hosting the inaugural edition of the Asian Relays.

The Asian Athletic Relay Championships are set to take place on May 20 and May 21 in Bangkok, Thailand. Interestingly, it will be the inaugural edition of the Asian Relays, as the Indian mixed relay teams will have a chance to secure a berth in the Paris-going Contingent.

The two-day event will feature different track events, such as men’s, women’s, and mixed-team relays. Indian 4x400m men’s as well as the women’s relay teams have already qualified for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. They secured a spot in the Paris Games at the 2024 World Athletics Relay Championship in the Bahamas earlier this month.

With a clocked time of 3:03.23, Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Arokia Rajiv and Amoj Jacob finished second behind USA in Heat 2 during the World Relays and booked a spot in the Paris Games.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s 4x400m quartet of Rupal, Jyothika Sri Dandi, MR Poovamma and Subha Venkatesan also bagged a place in the sporting megafest with 3:29.35 as their time.

The quartet of Rajesh Ramesh, Rupal Chaudhary, Avinash Krishna Kumar and Jyothika Sri Dandi represented the nation in the Bahamas at the mixed relay event, where they finished sixth in Heat 2. As a result, the Indian mixed relay team failed to win the Olympics quota at the World Relays in Nassau. Nevertheless, they’ll still have a chance to qualify for the upcoming games at the Asian Relays.
