Top five athletes who will miss Monaco Diamond League 2025

The Monaco DL will be the 10th stop in the Diamond League 2025 series this season.

The Monaco Diamond League 2025 is all set to take center stage on July 11, Friday, at Stade Louis II Stadium in Fontvieille. It is the 10th leg of the Wanda Diamond League series, which will culminate in Zurich with champions being crowned across various disciplines on August 27 and 28.

The event is headlined by many Olympic and world champions including Mondo Duplantis, Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo, Julien Alfred, Femke Bol, Masai Russell among others. With top athletes set to compete in Friday’s meet, it promises to be an exciting way to kick off the weekend for track and field enthusiasts.

However, several big names who were previously slated to compete have withdrawn from the Monaco Diamond League, although the reasons for their withdrawal remain unknown. With that, let’s take a look at the top five athletes who will miss the meet:

Athletes will miss Monaco Diamond League 2025

5) Tina Clayton (Women’s 100m)

Tina Clayton has been making waves this season with her impressive performances over the 100m distance. She won the Jamaican National Championships with a dominant 10.81s, a meet that served as the trials for the World Athletics Championships.

With that showing, she has unofficially qualified for the championships set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21.

While it was almost certain that her sister Tia who was also listed to compete at the Monaco Diamond League would withdraw due to an injury sustained during the 100m finals at the Jamaican Championships, the reason behind Tina’s withdrawal remains unknown. Tina last competed at the Prefontaine Classic, where she finished fourth with a time of 11.02s.

4) Sasha Zhoya (Men’s 110m hurdles)

Sasha Zhoya, the reigning Diamond League champion in the 110m hurdles, has pulled out of the Monaco Diamond League. Zhoya has only featured in two Grand Slam Track meetings this season in Kingston and Miami, running in the short hurdles group.

However, the former World U20 champion withdrew from the Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia due to an Achilles tendon issue that has persisted since May, although he had competed in the Miami meet despite the injury.

3) Pedro Pichardo (Men’s Triple Jump)

Pedro Pichardo, a two-time Olympic medalist, will also not be competing at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco. So far, the triple jumper has participated in three events this season, the most recent being on June 17 at the Meeting Internazionale ATL-Etica, where he placed first with a 16.67m jump.

Before that, the 32-year-old competed at the Oslo Bislett Games in Norway, where he finished second with a jump of 17.06m. However, he later reflected on the performance in an Instagram post, noting that he had been sick while competing.

Rhasidat Adeleke, best known as the first Irish woman to break the 50-second barrier in the 400m, has also opted out of competing at the Monaco Diamond League. In the 2025 season, Adeleke has struggled to live up to her reputation, having not clocked a single sub-50s time.

In her most recent race at the Prefontaine Classic, she finished fourth with a 51.33s run in the 400m, a race that featured 400m hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who won with a time of 49.43s.

1) Grant Holloway (Men’s 110m hurdles)

Grant Holloway, the 110m hurdles gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, won’t be competing at the Monaco Diamond League 2025.

Before that, he clocked 13.08s in the 110m hurdles final at the Meeting de Paris.

Although he was initially listed to compete at the meeting in Monaco, Holloway’s name doesn’t appear in the current list of participants. In Holloway’s absence, Trey Cunningham, Cordell Tinch and Dylan Beard are a few athletes to look out for in the discipline on Friday.
