Athletics: A list of national records in field events
The athletes from the country have set impressive benchmarks in field disciplines.
Athletics as a discipline is very diverse and full of many events. The two main categories are track and field which consist under the umbrella term of athletics. While track events involve running events at large and a few others that take place on the outer running track, field events take place on the field in the middle of the said track.
One can see athletics in several multi-sport meets and other championships, for eg, the Olympics. Athletics, by large also includes events like marathons and cross-country running which are done outside the arena. Track and field events are not a strong front for Indian athletes. However, on occasions, Indian athletes break forward and deliver outstanding performances in games like long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, etc.
