Top five best performers at Federation Cup 2025

Several big names of Indian athletics performed brilliantly at the Federation Cup 2025.
India’s premier domestic track and field event – the National Federation Senior Athletics Competition 2025 concluded in Kochi, Kerala, with some of the country’s top athletes delivering standout performances.
The Federation Cup, held from April 21 to 24, proved to be a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, South Korea.
The event featured medal events and brought together the country’s top athletes to vie for a spot on the Asian Championships team. Here’s a look at the top performers who made headlines at the Federation Cup 2025.
1. Tejaswin Shankar

Multi-event star Tejaswin Shankar broke a 19-year-old Federation Cup decathlon record by scoring 7603 points. This performance helped him qualify for the Asian Athletics Championships, earning him a place in the national team.
2. Vithya Ramraj

Vithya Ramraj, who co-holds the national 400m hurdles record of 55.42s with PT Usha, dominated the event at the competition in Kochi. Though she didn’t match her record, she won gold with a time of 56.04s and broke the meet record set by Saritaben Gayakwad (57.21s) in 2018.
Vithya’s performance is the second fastest in Asia this year, increasing her chances of reaching the podium at the upcoming Asian Championships in South Korea.
3. Praveen Chithravel

Praveen Chitravel equaled his national record in the triple jump event. The 23-year-old registered a jump of 17.37 metres at the Maharaja College Stadium, equalling the mark he first set in 2023 at the Prueba de Confrontación in Havana, Cuba.
Praveen’s performance surpassed the automatic qualification mark of 17.22m for the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
4. Animesh Kujur

Animesh Kujur, a 21-year-old athlete from Odisha, shattered the three-year-old 200m National Record with an impressive time of 20.40 seconds to secure the gold medal while outpacing record-holder Amlan Borgohain.
Additionally, Animesh also competed in the men’s 100m and claimed the silver in the shorter sprint event with a time of 10.32 seconds.
5. Shaili Singh

Shaili Singh broke a 23-year-old meet record with a jump of 6.64 meters in the National Federation Cup, surpassing Anju Bobby George’s previous 6.59-meter mark from 2002.
Shaili is currently India’s top long jumper, She has trained under Anju and Robert Bobby George for seven years. Her personal best of 6.76 metres is only behind Anju’s national record of 6.83 metres.
