National Open Athletics Championships 2026 Day 2 Wrap: Manikanta Hoblidhar sprints to 100m gold
Yaman Deep Sharma won the men’s decathlon with 7,068 points
The 65th National Open Athletics Championships 2026 continued at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, October 9, with 14 finals across track and field.
Manikanta Hoblidhar won the men’s 100m title, Anjali edged a closely contested women’s 400m final, and Manpreet Kaur claimed gold in the women’s shot put.
The second day also featured thrilling finishes in the men’s 400m and 1500m, alongside the conclusion of the men’s decathlon. The race walks and mixed 4x100m relay added to an eventful day as athletes competed for national honours.
Men’s 400m final decided by just 0.02 seconds

Akash Raj won the men’s 400m final in 46.24 seconds, finishing just 0.02 seconds ahead of Vikrant Panchal, who clocked 46.26 seconds. Mijo Kurian completed the podium in 46.45 seconds.
The women’s 400m final was equally competitive. Anjali claimed gold in 53.37 seconds, with Priya Mohan taking silver in 53.55 seconds and Priya Thakur securing bronze in 53.56 seconds. The difference between the silver and bronze medallists was just one-hundredth of a second.
Men’s 1500m produces a thrilling three-way finish
Arjun Waskale won the men’s 1500m final in 3:43.04, narrowly ahead of Shivam Sharma, who clocked 3:43.12. Rahul Baloda finished third in 3:43.14, leaving only 0.10 seconds between the winner and the bronze medallist.
In the women’s 1500m, Ankita secured the title in 4:13.18. Lili Das finished second in 4:19.05, while Komal Jagadale took bronze in 4:22.67.
Race walkers and decathletes complete demanding contests
Suraj Panwar won the men’s half marathon race walk in 1:30:48, finishing seven seconds ahead of Deepak Gurjar.
The women’s event saw Mokavi Muthurathina take gold in 1:45:39. Munita Prajapati followed just four seconds later in 1:45:43.
Yaman Deep Sharma won the men’s decathlon with 7,068 points. Manpreet Kaur claimed the women’s shot put with 17.07m, and Sebastian V S topped the men’s triple jump with 16.54m.
Dharamraj Yadav won the men’s discus throw, while Moumita Mondal and Muhammed Lazan VK secured the women’s 100m hurdles and men’s 110m hurdles titles respectively.
Railway Sports rounded off the day by winning the mixed 4x100m relay in 42.82 seconds, ahead of Delhi and Haryana.
What to expect on Day 3?
The championships continue on Saturday, October 10, with 11 finals scheduled. The day will feature the men’s and women’s 400m hurdles, high jump, 200m, 800m and long jump finals, alongside the women’s 10,000m, men’s 5000m, men’s javelin throw and mixed 4x400m relay. The women’s heptathlon will also continue.
The programme offers another busy day of track and field action, with sprinters, middle-distance runners, jumpers and throwers competing for national titles as the four-day championships progress in Delhi.
