Baranica Elangovan won the women’s pole vault gold with 4.10m

The 65th National Open Athletics Championships 2026 continued at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, October 10, with 11 finals across track and field.

Baranica Elangovan won the women’s pole vault title with a clearance of 4.10m, while Mubassina Mohammed edged Shaili Singh by just one centimetre to clinch women’s long jump gold.

The day also featured close relay finishes and competitive distance races.

Baranica Elangovan claimed the women’s pole vault title with a clearance of 4.10m. Teammate Mariya Jaison finished second with 3.90m, while Sindhushree G, Krishna Rachan, Karthika V and Nitika Akare shared third place at 3.80m.

In the women’s long jump, ONGC’s Mubassina Mohammed secured gold with a jump of 6.38m, narrowly beating Uttar Pradesh’s Shaili Singh, who recorded 6.37m. Mubassina’s second round effort proved decisive in a contest separated by just one centimeter.

Railway Sports prevail in a photo finish relay

The women’s 4x100m relay produced one of the tightest finishes of the day, with Railway Sports crossing the line in 45.56 seconds to beat Odisha by just 0.01 seconds. Odisha clocked 45.57 seconds and narrowly missed out on gold, while Tamil Nadu finished third in 46.03 seconds.

Railway Sports completed a relay double by winning the mixed 4x400m relay. The team of K Avinash, Sonia Baishya, Vikrant Panchal and Kiran Pahal clocked 3:21.60, finishing 0.83 seconds ahead of Haryana, who took silver in 3:22.43. Rajasthan secured third place in 3:25.54.

In the men’s 4x100m relay, the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) quartet of Harsh Raut, Rushiprasad Desai, Laukik Melge and Harjit claimed gold in 39.76 seconds. Railway Sports finished second in 40.75 seconds, followed by Haryana in 41.37 seconds.

Anushka Yadav dominates women’s hammer throw

Anushka Yadav won the women’s hammer throw title with an effort of 66.53m.

In the men’s shot put, Karanveer Singh secured gold with a throw of 19.63m. Sanyam and Anurag Kaler both recorded 18.32m, with Sanyam taking second place and Anurag finishing third.

Ramyashree Jain claimed the women’s javelin throw title with 56.63m. Sanjana Choudhary came close with 56.12m, a difference of just 0.51m, to take silver.

Sunil Dawar wins a close men’s 5000m race

Sunil Dawar won the men’s 5000m final in 14:01.64, holding off Shivaji Madappa, who finished in 14:02.81. The gap between the top two was just 1.17 seconds, while Ajay Bind followed closely in third place in 14:03.86.

The women’s 10,000m also witnessed a close contest at the front. Shampa Gain took gold in 35:33.90, finishing 1.46 seconds ahead of Soniya, who clocked 35:35.36. Km Mamta completed the podium in 35:38.25, keeping the top three within five seconds of one another.

In the men’s high jump, Rohit claimed the title with a clearance of 2.19m.

What to expect on Day 4?

The National Open Athletics Championships 2026 will conclude on Sunday, October 11, with 16 finals scheduled across track and field events. The programme includes the men’s and women’s marathon race walks, men’s javelin throw, the 400m hurdles, the 200m and 800m races, men’s long jump and the 3000m steeplechase.

The women’s heptathlon will also conclude, while the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays are among the events scheduled for the final day.

Women’s Hammer Throw: Anushka Yadav (66.53m), Haqiqat Grewal (56.14m), Kulvinder (55.22m).

Men’s High Jump: Rohit (2.19m), Jesse Sandesh (2.16m), Aaditya Raghuvanshi (2.16m).

Women’s Javelin Throw: Ramyashree Jain (56.63m), Sanjana Choudhary (56.12m), Deepika (54.07m).

Women’s 4x100m Relay: Railway Sports (45.56s), Odisha (45.57s), Tamil Nadu (46.03s).

Women’s Long Jump: Mubassina Mohammed (6.38m), Shaili Singh (6.37m), Nidhi (6.28m).

Men’s 4x100m Relay: SSCB (39.76s), Railway Sports (40.75s), Haryana (41.37s).

Women’s 10,000m: Shampa Gain (35:33.90), Soniya (35:35.36), Km Mamta (35:38.25).

Men’s 5000m: Sunil Dawar (14:01.64), Shivaji Madappa (14:02.81), Ajay Bind (14:03.86).

Mixed 4x400m Relay: Railway Sports (3:21.60), Haryana (3:22.43), Rajasthan (3:25.54).
