The Tokyo Olympic Gold medallist will be making his eighth appearance at the elite athletics meet.
Diamond League is at the pinnacle of athletics, and so is Neeraj Chopra in Javelin Throw. Haryana's golden boy has not stopped winning since he made a world under-20 record throw in the IAAF U-20 World Championships in 2016. The throw was 86.48m long and the farthest throw from any Indian athlete until his 87.43m long throw in the Doha Diamond League, held in May 2018.
After getting crowned as the world champion in the U-20 Championships, Neeraj Chopra won the first track and field medal for independent India in the Olympics. Chopra went on a 10-month long break and came back as if he never stopped training. He bettered his national record at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022 earlier in June to win the silver.
He also won the Gold at the Kourtane Games 2022 in Finland. The next target for Neeraj is winning India's first-ever medal at the prestigious Diamond League when he takes on the field in Stockholm on 30 June 2022.
How has Neeraj Chopra fared in the previous Diamond League meets?
Neeraj Chopra has featured in seven different Diamond League meets. He played in three of them in the 2017's editions and four in the 2018's. He is yet to win a medal in the prestigious competition as he just missed out on a podium finish twice. The two fourth-place finishes came in May 2018 (87.43m) and Zurich 2018 (85.73m).
Who will compete with Neeraj Chopra at the Diamond League?
Being the best annual athletics meet, Diamond League attracts some of the biggest names from the world of athletics. Fellow Tokyo Olympics medallists Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely are on the starting list alongside India's second-only Olympic Gold Medallist in an individual event. Other big names from the list are Finland's Oliver Helander, Grenada's Anderson Peters and Germany's Julian Weber.
When will the Javelin Throw event begin, and where is it happening?
Neeraj Chopra and co. will begin at 11:30 pm IST on 30 June 2022. The eighth meet of the Diamond League 2022 is happening in Stockholm, Finland.
