This is the fourth leg of Diamond League.
The fourth leg of the Diamond League 2024, Diamond League Rabat/Marrakech 2024 takes place Sunday in Marrakech, Morocco. Top international track and field athletes will compete at the Grand Stade de Marrakech as they prepare for the upcoming Paris Olympics.
The meet was relocated from its usual venue, the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, due to renovations at that facility. Marrakech’s 63,000-seat stadium will host many of the world’s best in sprints, distance events, jumps and throws.
Leading names expected to compete include triple jump world champion Pedro Pichardo of Portugal and 200m world champion Shericka Jackson of Jamaica. Pichardo missed last year’s World Championships with an injury but was victorious at April’s Diamond League meet in Xiamen, China.
Jackson is making her 2024 Diamond League debut after winning world titles in the 200m and 400m last season. The 29-year-old Jamaican will headline the women’s 200m in Marrakech.
The triple jump will also feature Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso, who upset Pichardo to claim the world title in 2023. Their ongoing rivalry promises a highlight event Sunday.
While no Moroccan or Indian athletes are expected to compete, strong international fields will vie for early season kudos as the Paris Olympics approach in late July. The meet offers a preview of potential Olympic medal contenders across numerous event.
