India announces squad for World Athletics U20 Championships 2026

The Indian contingent comprises 23 men and 13 women.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced a 36-member team for the World Athletics U20 Championships 2026, which will be held in Eugene, USA, next month.

The Indian contingent will compete in 18 events at the upcoming global junior championship. The team includes several emerging players from India, most of whom have enjoyed a dream run this year and will now try to prove their worth against the world’s best U20 players.

The men’s team will compete in track and field disciplines, including the 400m, 800m, 5000m, high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus throw, javelin throw, and relay events. Many athletes were selected on the back of brilliant performances in domestic tournaments, while India’s relay team will try to perform well in this international tournament.

The women’s team will compete in events such as the 400m, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, 4x100m relay, and mixed 4x400m relay. This team combines star junior performers and up-and-coming talented players who have performed consistently well in the national age-group system.

The World Athletics U20 Championship is considered one of the most important tournaments in global junior athletics, where young athletes gain much-needed international experience and face some of the world’s best upcoming talent. Multiple senior world and Olympic champions began their international careers in this tournament.

India have consistently produced U20 talent in recent years, and the 2026 team will aim to continue that streak in Eugene. With many events ahead, the Indian athletes will enter this tournament in sublime form and display their skills at a world junior athletics event.

The tournament will be held from August 5 to 9, and a 36-member team will represent India against the world’s best young athletes.
