Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024: Animesh Kujur, Prince Joseph shatter meet records; Moumita Mondal clinches gold in women's 100m hurdles

As many as four meet records were broken on day 1 of the Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024.
The inaugural day of the 4th Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024, taking place in Bihar from September 28-30 started with men’s 10,000m where Puneet Yadav of Haryana clinched the gold with a timing of 30:10.96s. He won the race quite easily with approx. 11 seconds between the winner and the runner-up. Moreover, Anchal Jaiswal of UP won the gold in the women’s 10,000m with a timing of 36:25.12.
In the men’s 100m semifinals, Animesh Khujur of Odisha broke the meet record by clocking a decent timing of 10.38s. The current national record holder in the same event, Manikanta Hoblidhar clocked 10.54s. Both will look to clock better in the finals that will be held on Sunday. Tanya Chaudhary of UP broke the meet record in the women’s hammer throw with a best throw of 54.42m to win the gold medal.
Meanwhile, Narpinder Singh from Punjab won the gold medal in men’s triple jump with a best jump of 15.60m, while Amandeep Singh won the gold medal in the men’s shot put with a best throw of 17.88m.
In women’s 400m, Devyani mahendrasi won the gold medal with a timing of 53.53s. In the men’s 400m semifinals, Prince Joseph of Kerala broke the meet record with a timing of 46.54s. Moreover, Tushar Kanti Manna of Delhi also clocked 46.57s, better than the previous meet record to reach the finals.
More meet records were shattered as Poorva Hitesh Sawant of Maharashtra broke the meet record in women’s triple jump with a best jump of 13.25m to win the gold medal.
Meanwhile, Moumita Mondal of West Bengal clocked 13.71s to win the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles. Thota Sankeertana of Chhattisgarh won the gold medal in the women’s 1500m with a timing of 4:33.53. Shiksha of Haryana won the women’s shot put title with a best throw of 14.66m.
