Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024: Animesh Kujur, Sudeshna Hanmant win 100m gold on Day 2

Several meet records were once again shattered on day 2 of the Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024.
The second day of the 4th Indian Open U23 Athletics Championships 2024 witnessed some spectacular results from the youngsters. The day started with 20km racewalk where Reshma Patel won the event in womenâs category with a timing of 1:44:37.29s. Meanwhile, in the menâs category, Sachin Bohra clinched gold by clocking 1:28:51.88s.
Meanwhile, Graceson Jeeva of Odisha won the menâs 110m hurdles title with a timing of 14:49s and in the menâs 1500m Sakir of Haryana clinched the title with a timing of 3:48.21.
In 100m sprinting, Sudeshna Hanmant became the fastest Indian woman in the U23 category with a timing of 11.76s, while Animesh Kujur emerged as the fastest Indian man in the U23 category with a timing of 10.40s. Animesh has been consistent throughout the season and will look to break the National record soon. In the same event, the current national record holder Manikanta finished fourth and just missed on a medal after clocking 10.68s.

Moreover, Animesh also ran the 200m and topped his heat to qualify for the semifinals with a timing of 21.84s. In the same event, Abhay Singh, who was the guide of Simran Sharma at the Paris Paralympics and helped her to win bronze in womenâs 200m T12 category, also topped his heat with a timing of 21.67s.
The decathlon event was won by Jashbir Nayak of Odisha with 7065 points across 10 events, him setting a new meet record. Gopika and Payal Jamod both equalled the meet record of 1.76m in womenâs high jump to win gold and silver respectively.
Abhimanyu of Haryana also equalled the meet record in the menâs discus throw with a best throw of 53.66m. In the menâs 400m, Tushar Kanti Manna of Delhi won the gold medal by clocking sub-46 timing. He registered 45.92s and also broke the meet record.
In the menâs 3000m steeplechase, Suraj Pal won the gold medal with a timing of 9:00.52s. Moreover, the womenâs gold was won by Olympian Ankita, who clocked 10:17.25s. Dev Meena won the gold medal in menâs Pole Vault with a best jump of 6.20m.
Finally, in the womenâs javelin throw, Jyoti registered a good throw of 58.49m to win the gold medal. She also broke the meet record. Deepika also bettered the previous meet record with a best throw of 54.71m to win silver.

- Menâs Pole Vault: Gold â Dev Meena (5.20m)
- Menâs Discuss Throw: Gold â Abhimanyu (53.66m), Silver â Shubhkarman Singh (52.34m), Bronze â Nagendra Annappa (51.98m)
- Decathlon: Gold â Jashbir Nayak (7065), Silver â Logeshkumaar (6525), Rathod Lokesh (6440)
