16 Indian athletes book their tickets to the U20 World Championships 2026
The U20 World Athletics Championships 2026 is slated to take place from August 5 to 9 in Oregon, USA. The athletes from different federations are now vying for a spot in their respective contingents for the 21st edition of the prestigious event.
The qualification period of the U20 World Athletics Championships began on October 1, 2025, and will run until July 26, 2026. In this edition, there will be an inclusion of events like mixed 4x100m and the 5000m race walk, while the 10,000m race walk is excluded.
The Indian athletes participated in the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from October 10 to 14. The event turned out to be the perfect opportunity for the country’s track and field stars to achieve the World U20 qualification mark.
Parth Singh returned with an impressive performance at the long jump and the men’s 100m events. With his 7.82m leap, he produced his personal best and also created a new meet record.
As a result, he comfortably surpassed the qualification mark of 7.58m. Meanwhile, he narrowly missed the mark (10.50s) in the 100m after clocking a timing of 10.52s.

In the men’s javelin throw, two athletes qualified for India. Himanshu’s best attempt came at 80.38m and Rishabh Giri made it to 68.76m, both clearing the required 68.50m mark.
Mohammed Ashfaq (46.87s), Sharan M (47.09s), and Rohit Chaudhary (47.17s) also confirmed their qualification in the men’s 400m event by breaching the mark of 47.40s. Meanwhile, the women’s 400m saw Neeru Pathak (53.30s) also meet the entry standard of 55.20s.
Moreover, Pathak also produced a timing of 24.05s in the women’s 200m to break the meet record and achieve the qualification mark of 24.35m.
Long jumper Mubassina Mohammed (6.30m) was well above the World U20 qualification mark of 6.12m.
Pratik Maharana achieved his personal best of 21.24 seconds in the men’s 200m dash, while also breaking the meet record of 21.26s. With this performance, he achieved the entry standard of 21.25s.
On the other hand, Nishchay broke the U18 discus (1.75kg-1.5kg) record with a 63.69m throw, which is far greater than the U20 qualification mark of 56m.
