The last time Jeswin Aldrin was seen in action was at the National Federation Athletics meet on April 22.
In another major setback to India’s aspirations at the upcoming World Athletics Championships, long jumper Jeswin Aldrin has reportedly ended his season due an unknown injury. Jeswin, who holds the national record in men’s long jump, was last in action at the National Federation Athletics meet in Kochi on April 22.
He finished second in the event with a best effort of 7.83m behind Tamil Nadu’s David Patturaj Solomon, who produced a personal best of 7.94 to win the event. That was the 23-year-old’s second event this season after the Indian Open Meet in Chennai, where he finished seventh (7.36m) after pulling his right hamstring.
Now according to NNIS Sports, Aldrin will not only miss the upcoming Inter-State Athletics Championships later this season but is also possibly ruled out for the season.
“Multiple sources confirm his injury & that he has taken an appointment at Aspetar Hospital, Doha for surgery – the same place where Murali Sreeshankar got his surgery done,” the sports news agency said in a post.
Nevertheless, the news comes as a disappointment for Indian athletics. Aldrin, who stunned the nation in 2023 with his 8.42m jump, has struggled since. Last season, he failed to cross the 8m barrier.
This year, he was expected to bounce back but managed only a season-best of 7.83m at the Federation Cup. His last outing was at the Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025, where he finished seventh with a best effort of 7.36m.
Earlier, Aldrin had finished 13th at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow (7.69m) on March 2, 2024, and 5th at the Guadalajara Athletics Meeting in Spain (7.65m) on June 24, 2024.
Meanwhile, as Aldrin ends his season prematurely, going by the report, focus will now shift to Murali Sreeshankar—who has returned from a long-term injury and is gradually hitting peak form.
Since his return, Sreeshankar has topped the podium in each of the four events that he has competed in. Most recently, he won the men’s long jump event at the Qosanov Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet, in Almaty with a best jump of 7.94m.
Earlier in July, he marked his return to action with a 8+ leap at the Indian Open Athletics meet. His jump of 8.05m was enough to win him the event following an 18-month lay-off period.
