Jyothi Yarraji wins gold medal in 100m hurdles at Kurpfalz Gala in Germany, clocks 13.06s

Jyothi Yarraji is yet to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Indian runner Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal in the 100m women’s hurdles event at the Kurpfalz Gala in Germany on Saturday, May 18.
Yarraji’s clocked time was 13.06 seconds, as she outpaced her opponents to secure the top spot in the same event for the second consecutive time. The Indian runner was the defending champion at the Kurpfalz Gala and she successfully managed to retain her title.
Home favourite Winkler Katharina finished second with a clocked time of 13.61, while Maihofer Lisa secured the bronze medal. However, Jyothi Yarraji failed to breach the Olympic qualification mark again.

The qualification mark for the upcoming Paris Olympics is 12.77 seconds. Earlier this week, the 25-year-old won the women’s 100m hurdles event at the Harry Schulting Games 2024 athletics meet in Vught, Netherlands, with a timing of 12.87 seconds, missing the Olympic qualification mark by 1/10th of a second.
Jyothi Yarraji has been unlucky with the mark, as she clocked an impressive timing of 12.78s for a bronze medal at the World University Games in Chengdu last year.

The 25-year-old also came fourth with a timing of 23.57 seconds in the women’s 200m event at the Canarias Athletics Invitational on Wednesday (May 15). However, she still has a chance to secure an Olympic quota, as the qualification period for the upcoming sporting megafest will end on June 30.
Apart from Jyothi Yarraji, sprinter Animesh Kujur clocked 20.96s to finish second in the men’s 200m race, while P. Mohammed Afsal clocked 1:47.05 to win the men’s 800m race. Tejas Shirse also took home a silver medal with a clocked time of 13.60s in the men’s 110m hurdles at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event.
