'Clutch, Neeraj, Clutch!' - Social media erupts as Neeraj Chopra produces season-best throw to finish second at Lausanne Diamond League 2024

Neeraj Chopra staged an epic comeback in his final attempt at Lausanne Diamond League 2024.
The Lausanne Diamond League 2024 saw Neeraj Chopra finishing second with a season-best throw of 89.49m. Anderson Peters took the title with a throw of 90.61m in his final attempt while Julian Weber secured third place with a throw of 87.08m.
Chopra registered his second career best throw at the Lausanne Diamond League 2024. He began slowly but found his strength at the right time during the event.
The 26-year-old, reigning world champion and Paris Olympics silver medallist, started the event with a throw of 82.10m which was overshadowed by Anderson Peters who threw 86.36m in his first attempt. Julian Weber also began well with a throw of 85.07m. Even though Chopra’s first throw was nowhere near his best, it still placed him fourth after the first round.
In the second round, there was only a bit of improvement from the former Olympic champion. With a throw of 83.21m, Chopra was far behind his rivals and was visibly disappointed with his form. Peters increased his lead with a throw of 88.49m in his second attempt. Meanwhile Weber stayed in second place with a throw of 87.08m.

Chopra’s third and fourth attempts were 83.13m and 82.34m respectively. He signalled the crowd to cheer for him and did a few stretches before the fifth throw. The cheers worked for the 26-year-old as he threw 85.58m to claw his back into the top three. It ensured that he qualified for the sixth and final throw between the top three competitors.

Peters kept his best for the final attempt as he registered a massive throw of 90.61m while Webers fell behind with a throw of 82.33m. Chopra proved his mettle yet again with an impressive throw of 89.49m, he let out a roar and shared a hug with Peters.
