Luiz Mauricio da Silva joins the elite list of athletes to throw over 90m in the javelin throw.

Luiz Mauricio da Silva from Brazil became the latest player to clear the elusive 90m mark in the men’s javelin throw event. He achieved this feat at the Brazilian Championships 2025, which took place at the Centro de Treinamento Paralímpico Brasileiro in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Brazilian javelin thrower is the 27th player to throw 90m+ and the third player to achieve the feat this season.

Neeraj Chopra (90.20m) and Julian Weber (90.06m) were the two others who breached the 90m mark this season. Both players registered their personal best throws at the Doha Diamond League 2025 at the Doha Sports Club in Qatar.

En route to his new personal best, Luiz Mauricio da Silva shattered the Brazilian national record and South American record. Luiz Mauricio da Silva moves to the second rank in the season’s world ranking and also becomes the 18th player to throw 91m in history.
