Animesh Kujur holds the national record in men’s 100m.

Manikanta Hoblidhar clocked 10.19 seconds to clinch the gold medal at the 64th National Open Athletics Championships 2025 at the Birsa Munda Stadium (Morabadi) on Sunday, September 28.

The 24-year-old, representing the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), became the second Indian runner after Animesh Kujur to run sub-10.20s in the men’s 100m event. He missed breaking Animesh Kujur’s national record of 10.18 seconds by the barest of margins.

The 10.19 seconds was Hoblidhar’s personal best, bettering his previous best of 10.22 seconds, he clocked in March earlier this year.

“I was confident of improving my personal best today,” the 100m champion told the Athletics Federation of India in a post-race interaction. “I had the strength and energy to further raise the bar in the 100m dash, but just fell short,” he added.

Manikanta finished first in Heat 5 of the prelims round, clocking a time of 10.61 seconds to qualify for the semis.

In Heat 1 of the semis, the 24-year-old completed the race in 10.23 seconds, finishing above Tamil Arasu S (10.28 seconds) and Ragul Kumar G (10.33 seconds). He equalled his own meet record he set at the 2023 edition of the National Open Athletics Championships.
