Neeraj Chopra, Arshad Nadeem to clash in Silesia Diamond League on August 16

Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem last met at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra will face Paris Olympics 2024 gold medalist Arshad Nadeem in a much-awaited clash at the Silesia Diamond League 2025 in Poland on August 16. This will be the first meeting between Asia’s two finest javelin throwers since the Paris Olympics 2024.
According to a statement from World Athletics, Asia’s top two javelin throwers will compete against each other in Poland next month.
“Neeraj Chopra will face Arshad Nadeem. The Indian-Pakistani battle awaiting the Polish fans will be the first opportunity for revenge after the Paris Olympics,” the statement from the organizers read while announcing the participants for the Silesia leg of the Diamond League 2025
“The Pakistani’s form remains something of a mystery, as he rarely appears on the European circuit. The exception he will make on August 16th results from his desire to face Chopra. The latter became the 26th thrower in history to surpass 90 metres this spring. And he is certainly yearning for more,” the statement reads.
Chopra and Arshad will meet each other for the 12th time since 2016. The head-to-head record stands 11-1 in favour of India’s Neeraj. The men’s javelin throw final event at the Paris Olympics last year was the only time Arshad defeated Neeraj. He registered a record-breaking throw of 92.27m to shatter the Olympic Record and Asian Record in Paris the previous year.
Chopra has achieved a personal best and season best of 90.23m, having breached the elusive 90m mark for the first time in the Doha leg of the 2025 Diamond League. He has been in fine form, having competed in several events across Europe this year.
The Indian javelin thrower was last seen in action during the recently concluded inaugural edition of the NC Classic in Bengaluru, where he finished atop the podium.
On the other hand, Arshad has a personal best of 92.27m set last year at the Olympic Games, while his season best stands at 86.40m, which he registered during the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, in May 2025.
