Back from injury, Neeraj Chopra will kickstart his 2026 season at the Doha Diamond League 2026. Chopra, who was out with a back injury since August last year, will be in action in the men’s javelin throw event in Doha.

The two-time Olympic medallist has fond memories in Doha. Most importantly, it was here that he achieved his first 90m throw. However, the competition won’t be easy.

Chopra will face stiff challenge from a top-class field, which includes Sri Lankan star Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who entered the 90m club two weeks ago.

The Doha leg of the Diamond League also marks a new beginning for Chopra, who parted ways with coach Jan Zelezny in January and has since started training with Jai Chaudhary—his first coach back home in Haryana.

The 28-year-old was last in action at the World Athletics Championships in September last year, where he finished a lowly eighth with a below part throw of 84.03m. Chopra had participated in the event despite carrying a back injury.

“I don’t think it was a good decision to compete in Tokyo knowing that I was already carrying an injury,” Chopra said at a press conference in Doha yesterday. “In athletes’ lives, if you try to save one injury, there is another one that can come up. But it was the last competition of the year, so I pushed for it,” he added.
